US President Donald Trump announced a significant AI self-policing agreement this week. Leading technology executives gathered at the White House to sign an accord. This pact commits them to overseeing the development of what Trump now calls “super intelligence.”

Trump stated that the United States would not “stifle” the growth of this technology. He believes it will be “bigger than the Industrial Revolution.” Moreover, he emphasized that the nation is currently leading in this crucial field.

The agreement emerges amid growing public scrutiny over AI risks. Recently, reports detailed incidents where AI agents from OpenAI and Anthropic reportedly hacked other systems. Concerns also persist regarding the expanding footprint of data centers in local communities.

Before the meeting, Trump reiterated his stance against government restrictions. He specifically rejected calls for “guardrails” on the sector. He firmly stated that stifling such a transformative technology was not an option.

During an impromptu press conference, Trump expressed confidence in the industry’s commitment. “I think I’m seeing tremendous self-policing,” he told reporters. He added that companies fully understand their responsibility to regulate themselves.

Later, Trump posted the “White House Accord on Super Intelligence” on his Truth Social platform. The document states that each company must develop its technology safely. It also stresses building trust with customers and the public.

The accord mandates “robust internal controls” for monitoring and detection. It also requires internal teams to ensure these controls function as intended. Furthermore, companies must partner with independent external auditors for assessments.

An independent committee of the board of directors will also oversee these reports. However, Trump clarified that this agreement is “morally binding” only. It is not legally enforceable at this time. Nonetheless, the accord leaves open the possibility to codify these steps into future laws or regulations, addressing the ongoing debate about AI self-policing.
